Based out of a home kitchen in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, Baked By Gemma specialises in cupcakes and custom cakes that will put the proverbial cherry on top of any special occasion. 

From an early age, when she commandeered her mum's KitchenAid, Gemma knew her heart laid with baked goods. Baked By Gemma was founded in 2014 after years of baking for family and friends' special events and building a loyal following of cake demanders. Everyone cheered. And her mum has finally stopped asking for that KitchenAid back.

Wedding Info + Testimonials

There's no greater excuse for cake than one of (arguably) the biggest days of your life. Whether your preference is for naked cakes, rustic frosting or cupcake towers, BBG can help ensure your day goes as sweetly as possible (pun absolutely intended)

If you would like to have Gemma make your wedding cake, please do get in touch to organise a free tasting (they're also obligation free, but it's likely you'll go with BBG once you've tried her cakes!). These are held in Waterloo, Sydney, where you will be able to try three cake and frosting flavours respectively. Any special requests are discussed, from incorporating nostalgic flavours (such as putting Baileys in the buttercream for your Irish wedding, herbs infused into the salted caramel sauce to match your fragrant bouquets, etc), dietary requests (yes your cake CAN be gluten and egg free!), to pouring over your well-cultivated Pinterest inspiration board together to make sure we get the look just right. You can take any leftovers to family and friends to consult over favourite flavours, and then simply let Gemma know what you'd like to go with from there.

Price is done on a per serve basis, generally between $3.80-$4.80 per "finger" sized serve - see this Wilton standard serving guide for how many serves you can expect per tier (two cakes per tier).

I discovered Gemma on Facebook when my friend was tagged in a picture of a wedding cake she had made. With a bit of stalking I found her website and read a few of her blog posts. It was then I realised she was a creative risk taker willing to try and invent different flavours into a culinary experience that is truly unforgettable. I engaged with Gemma to see if she could make our dream wedding cake and from our first point of contact her she has been an absolute pleasure to deal with (not to mention the amount of cake we ate at our tastings!!) . When you go for tastings at her place you see that the cakes are made with genuine love and passion (she still has her first cake baking magazine in her kitchen). We wanted a wedding cake that looked incredible and tasted even better- something Gemma has a unique talent for! All our wedding guests commented on how amazing the cake tasted! After this Gemma has made birthday cakes for my husband and father taking into consideration their favourite flavours and turning it into something unique!

Gemma is simply the best. The passion she displays in all she does is immense. Making and delivering over 200 cup cakes for our wedding day was no easy task and Gemma did it with ease.

Baked by Gemma made our wedding cake and it could not have been a bigger hit! We had a salted caramel mud cake with vanilla bean buttercream frosting that was to die for. Gemma even made some salted caramel sauce to go with the cake and the guests absolutely loved it. Gemma was so helpful in guiding us on how big the cake needed to be for the number of guests and assisting us to choose a flavour. She offered multiple cake tastings and just made the whole process so lovely and easy. The cake looked just like the picture we gave for inspiration and having her deliver it herself just put us at ease! We will definitely be using Baked by Gemma for all our future celebrations.

FAQ

Do you deliver?

Yes, the fee is $12 for any Eastern Suburbs and CBD deliveries; other locations are calculated at 50c/kilometre return from Waterloo, Sydney. Pick-up from Waterloo is free. If delivery is required, contact details for someone at the venue (event coordinator, caterer, etc) are necessary to liaise with them.


Can you make my cake(s) gluten/soy/nut/egg free?

Definitely! For gluten-free cupcakes it's an extra $3 per dozen, soy and nut-free cakes are generally made at no extra cost, and all other dietary requirements are individually quoted depending on what you're after.

NB: It's always important to mention if this is for an allergy.


What about vegan cakes?

Vegan cupcakes are definitely possible (and wedding cakes too!) depending on the flavour you want to have. As a vegetarian/semi-vegan with lots of vegan friends, Gemma knows that you still need great animal-free cake in your life. 


Any flavour is possible! Within reason; No you can't have a bacon flavoured cake, but Yes you can have bacon as a decoration on your maple syrup-flavoured, Canada-themed cake, should you be so inclined.

Those listed under the 'Cupcakes + Flavours' section are just the most popular ones, generally. If you want orange & poppyseed cake with coconut  frosting, coffee cake with white chocolate frosting, or a super-rich mud cake with ganache drip and all the sprinkles in the world, that's entirely possible too (and encouraged!). Just let Gemma know what you're after.
